Born in a town of 1600 people in rural Ontario, Dain began his fitness journey at the age of 10 when he grew tired of being teased as a “fat kid”. He learned at an early age about calories and exercise, and how both factors played a key role in weight loss. Active in sports like soccer and golf throughout high school, Dain moved to Kingston, Ontario in 2002 to start his post-secondary education at Queen’s University. It is here where he discovered the value of weight training and the sport of Strongman, both of which remain a huge part of Dain’s daily life.
Through four years at Queen’s, Dain earned his degrees in Physical & Health Education and Health Studies, but wasn’t immediately inclined to start a career in the appealing but unregulated fitness industry. As such, Dain pursued other work that enabled him to branch out into other cultures, taking him overseas to Belgium from 2009-2011 where he ultimately rekindled his passion for health and nutrition.
Upon returning from Europe, Dain earned his CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) and took the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification. Shortly thereafter, frustrated by reading too many misleading mainstream nutrition articles, Dain started the Fit in a FAT World Blog and began advising friends and family on their nutrition. This passion quickly turned into the beginnings of career as a Nutrition Coach, and eventually grew into the broader offerings of a Health Coach.
A graduate of the first Precision Nutrition Level 2 class in 2014, Dain believes in continuing education and refines his practice on an ongoing basis. He is also passionate about challenging his body and recently qualified for 5 consecutive Strongman World Championships (2014-2018) while winning 2 Canadian Strongman Championships in the u80kg class. Pulling from this experience Dain also offers Online Strongman Coaching Services for athletes around the world.
Now a proud member of Move Daily Health Coaching and contributor for several media outlets, Dain lives his passion daily and does his best to reach people through as many avenues as possible. At the end of the day, Dain lives by the mantra: “Without health, there’s nothing else.”
